Harold Zehr
Harold Zehr was born in 1933 in East Zorra Township, the only son of Ervin and Sarah (Iutzi) Zehr. He attended public school and the Cassel Amish Mennonite Church. His family’s first language was Deitsch. Harold met Eleanor Streicher from Wellesley and they were married in 1954. They lived in Wellesley, where Harold was a truck driver. They had two daughters and attended the Maple View Amish Mennonite Church, where Eleanor’s father was the bishop. In 1963, they bought a dairy farm near Chesley, ON, and farmed in that community for 13 years. After selling the farm, Harold became a real estate agent in the Hanover community. Harold and Eleanor attended the Hanover and Chesley Mennonite churches. Harold and Eleanor retired to Tavistock, Stratford, and Listowel, ON, and were members of the Listowel Mennonite Church. Eleanor died in 2004. Later that year, Harold married Anna Friesen and moved to Henfryn, ON, where they are members of the Donegal Mennonite Fellowship.
