Isabel (Bender) Ruby

Isabel (Bender) Ruby was born on a farm in East Zorra township, the daughter of Peter and Lovina (Erb) Bender. She had three older brothers and two older sisters. Her family were members of the East Zorra Mennonite Church. Isabel attended S. S. No. 8 public school and her first language was Deitsch. Isabel graduated from grade 8 and worked in retail until 1957, when she married Vernon Ruby. They were blessed with one daughter and three sons. Vernon and Isabel operated a hog farm in South Easthope Township. Isabel also worked as a nurse’s aide 19 years. She volunteered at the MCC New Hamburg Thrift Centre. The Rubys attended the East Zorra Mennonite Church. In 2000 they sold their farm to their son and moved to Tavistock. Vernon died in 2005.
