Jim Schumm
Jim Schumm was born in 1943, the son of Henry and Edna (Schlegel) Schumm. Jim had ten siblings, and after the death of his grandfather in 1953, Jim’s maternal grandmother, Annie (Yantzi, Schlegel) Ropp, came to live with his family. Deitsch was his first language. Jim attended Facey’s Public School, S.S. No. 7, East Zorra Township, and graduated from grade 8. Before partnering with his father and brother in farming, Jim worked as an electrician, plumber, and carpenter, acquiring skills that he has used throughout his life. In 1965 Jim married Carol Brenneman and they had four daughters and one son. Jim and Carol have lived on the same farm, Lot 33, Concession 16 (East), East Zorra Township, all their married life. For many years, Jim farmed with his brother and is now in partnership with his son. They are members of the East Zorra Mennonite Church.
