Mary Ellen (Bast) Ruby

Mary Ellen (Bast) Ruby was born in 1940, the daughter of Ezra and Lena (Stere) Bast. She had one brother and four sisters. Her family attended the East Zorra Mennonite Church and her first language was Deitsch. Mary Ellen attended S.S. No. 8, Sebastopol Public School, and graduated from grade 8. In 1960 she married John Ruby and they operated a mixed farm in East Zorra Township. They were blessed with three daughters and one son. Mary Ellen and John attended the East Zorra Mennonite Church and retired to Tavistock in 1994. Mary Ellen worked part time as a caterer with Quehl’s Restaurant in Tavistock. John died in 2012.
